Last week I started ’s Heart to Page Course and she challenged us to write about what it means to “begin.” The catch? We couldn’t use the word. Here’s what I came up with:
I stand at the edge of a wide open field, mesmerized by the diverse wildlife before me. Dandelions dance with Black-Eyed Susans; Queen Anne’s Lace twirls around a blanket of Painted Lady Ferns. A hidden spring sings a sweet song, calling me to explore.
An overgrown path lies off to the side, but I hesitate to trample over it. Putting one foot in front of the other is the only way to get to the other side, but my heart flutters with fear of the unknown. What if there’s something hidden within?
If only I could fly overhead, charting out the best path. I brace myself for the initial burst of bitterness—the cold of the unknown. Courageously, on tiptoes, moving as slow as a snail, I gingerly step into the weeds. Clearing my own path.
I love that I can see where you are so clearly! The description of place is so beautiful and makes me want to “begin” where you are, too!
"Putting one foot in front of the other is the only way to get to the other side, but my heart fluttera at the unknown." Me too. Beautiful piece, Crystal.
