The day before Thanksgiving in our house is filled with ordinary last minute preparations: making pumpkin pie, finalizing the recipe list, and compiling my Christmas gift list. Some people like to wait until Thanksgiving is over to think about Christmas, but I like to have all my shopping done by the beginning of December. With everyone on my list accounted for, I can really enjoy the slow waiting that Advent has to offer.
As you make your final Thanksgiving plans today (and I make my final gift list), I’m sharing five quick gift ideas that I think will make anyone on your list very happy. And if you just aren’t ready to think about Christmas yet, that’s okay. This list will be here when you get ready!
Five Year Memory Book
The five year memory book is a really fun way to document your days over the course of several years. Kind of like how Facebook shows you all your memories from years’ past—but on paper instead of on the interwebs. There are so many options to choose from, but I love this one from Leuchtturm1917. There’s plenty of room to jot down a few sentences each day or draw a small picture if that’s your thing. I love taking just a few minutes before bed every night to reflect on the day. This is an excellent gift for anyone on your list, especially those people who seem to have everything they could ever want.
Find What Feels Good Subscription
I splurged on the annual FWFG subscription after doing 30-days of Yoga with Adriene in January and it has been the best way to pamper myself. Adriene does have free monthly calendars online, but the subscription makes it super easy to be successful at facing the mat every day. I can open the calendar directly on the app on my phone, there are extra videos every month just for subscribers, and it just feels good to care for my body in this way. This month’s focus has been meditation and I love the way it encourages me to really slow down and pay attention to my body and my mind.
Homemade sugar scrub
This is one of my favorite gifts for teachers and coaches. It can be customized based on the recipient. You’ll need sugar, olive oil, and optional essential oils of your choice. Peppermint is always a great holiday scent. I love Lemon for the kitchen or Lavender for a relaxing smell. Mix half a cup of sugar with 1/4-1/2 cup of oil, depending on the consistency you want. Add 15-20 drops of essential oils if you’d like. Put it in a mason jar, attach a label, and you’re good to go! You can download a printable label here.
Hot sauce
The hot sauce gift box from Rancho Gordo is one of my favorite gifts for people that seem to have everything. It comes with a great variety of sauces, which seem to complement just about every dish I make. The Paloma is my favorite. The Gay Caballero is my husband’s. Rancho Gordo also sells my favorite beans and popcorn. If you have a foodie in your life, you can’t go wrong with anything from their store.
Gift card
Gift cards get a bad rep as being the easy way out when it comes to gift giving. I rolled my eyes when I got a gift card to a restaurant chain a few months ago, but when I realized I could exchange it for a gift card to a place I loved, I gained a new perspective. The right gift card can say a lot about how much you care for the person you’re gifting it to. If you know your daughter’s dance teacher spends a lot of money at Starbucks, buying them a Starbucks gift card can be the perfect way to say Thank You. If your best friend loves working out, a gift card to Athleta could be the best thing she gets for Christmas. Have a book lover on your list but aren’t sure what books they want? Buy a gift card at a local bookstore. You will be their favorite person in the world. The trick to giving gift cards is to really think about the person you’re gifting it to. If you’ve shown some thought behind what you’ve chosen, it will be the best gift ever. I promise.
Next week is Newsletter week, so there won’t be another Five Quick Things until December. Need a recommendation? Send me a quick message and I’ll do my best to include it!
Until next time,
