Happy February friends!
Tomorrow marks the midpoint of Winter — Spring is on its way! I’m so excited about this edition of Five Quick Things. It was hard for me to narrow down my recommendations this week, so rest assured these are five of the very best things that have come across my desk in the last couple of weeks.
One Essay to Read
When I first read Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, I was both furious and thrilled that someone published a book saying things I had been telling my husband for years. In his latest essay, The Digital Workplace is Designed to Bring You Down, he talks about the need for boundaries, clear office hours, and ending the constant chain of instant communication. He again says so many things I’ve been telling my husband for the last two years, but this time I’m just relieved to know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
One New Podcast
My friend Rachel and her brother Sam started Swift and Sips with Sibs, a podcast where they talk about their combined love for Taylor Swift music and cocktail recipes. Each episode features a Taylor Swift song, a cocktail or two, and a story about why they love both.
One Sneak Peak
I am so excited about this sneak peak of The Beauty of Motherhood, a new book coming out in March by my friends Erin Strybis and Kimberly Knowle-Zeller. This is the exact book I wished for when my kids were teeny-tiny and I can’t wait to gift it to every new mama that I know.
One Recipe to Try
I have a container of miso hanging out in the back of my fridge, and am picking up fresh fish from the local fisherman tonight. I considered making fish tacos, but with the temperatures dropping into the negative teens this weekend, I think I’ll try this Miso Fish Chowder instead.
One List of Writing Prompts
This list of Ten Writing Prompts can help enrich your writing life this month. If you get inspired by one of these prompts, I’d love to see what you write. Most importantly though, just have fun while you do it!
May you find peace, stillness, and maybe even a little magic in your days this week.
Until next time,
I’m no longer on social media, but there’s all kinds of fun stuff happening on the Blog. You can sign up here to receive posts in your inbox the day after they go live.
