My weekend writing time was filled with gymnastics meets, dance practices, and brunch with friends. I hoped to send you this month’s Insider News today, but it’s not ready yet. When I finally sat down to write yesterday, it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to say. I’m onto something good, I think, but I need a little more time to finesse it before setting it free in the world. You’ll have it next week, I promise. While you wait, here are five things to explore.
One Fun Fact
A book club friend gave me her copy of Spare last week. After reading the very first sentence I mused aloud, “I wonder who his ghostwriter was.” My husband was quick to investigate. I have Moehringer’s The Tender Bar on my shelf waiting to be read; perhaps I’ll pick it up next.
One Soundtrack to Listen To
When I finished Romeo & Juliet for book club last month, I told a friend how I wished someone would turn it into a musical like Hamilton or Six. “Have you heard of &Juliet?” she asked. I had not. But now I can’t stop listening to the soundtrack. It’s not quite what I was wishing for, but it is super fun all the same.
One Book to Put on your TBR
I finished Caleb’s Crossing by Geraldine Brooks last week and it was utterly devastating, in the most beautiful way. Based on the true story of Caleb Cheeshahteaumuck, the first Native American graduate of Harvard University, the setting rotates between Martha’s Vineyard and Cambridge, MA in the 1600s. Brooks doesn’t shy away from highlighting the problems between white Christian missionaries and the Wampanoag tribe. This should be required reading.
One Way to Nourish Your Writing Life
Last week, I shared how Spiritual Direction for Writers is one of the things saving my life right now. Charlotte’s new free daily nourishment has been a beautiful addition to my writing life. I don’t use it every day, but I love the encouragement to Pause, Prompt, and Practice. Especially when I’m feeling a little stuck.
One Recipe to Try
I can’t get enough of this White Bean and Rice Soup with Turmeric. It is quick, easy, hearty, and delicious. It really should be on repeat in everyone’s kitchen this blustery cold month of February.
May you inhale peace and exhale worry as your week goes by.
Until next time,
I’m no longer on social media, but there’s all kinds of fun stuff happening on the Blog.
Know someone who would love to receive every post?
A few things. 1. Please just tell me Bono wrote his book without a ghostwriter. 2. Soup!! 3. Thanks for the shoutout!!💚✨🙌
