Five Quick Things 008
Including a Free Ash Wednesday Resource, a recipe, book, song, and my new favorite way to read the news
It’s hard to believe Lent begins tomorrow. I planned on sending out my monthly newsletter this week, but life got thrown upside down last week when I learned of the death of a childhood friend. February’s newsletter will come out next week, but to makeup for my delay, this week’s Five Quick Things is available to everyone, not just Paid Subscribers. Thanks for your patience as I try to get back into the swing of things.
One Ash Wednesday Resource
Two years ago, I was heartbroken to learn there would be no imposition of ashes because of the pandemic. I created this Family Worship guide and begrudgingly celebrated Ash Wednesday at home. It was such a powerful family experience that we still use it at our family dinner on Ash Wednesday (or this year it will be the day after because of the kids’ activities).
One Recipe I Can’t Get Enough Of
I made Beans & Cheese last winter and then forgot about it over the summer, when fresh food abounds. When meal planning last week, I found it in my stack of loved recipes. I had forgotten how amazing it is. I really need to add it to the regular rotation in every season.
One Picture Book to Read
We are loving The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore right now. It is all about the power of the written word, and the magic of sitting amongst hundreds of books.
One News Email to Subscribe To
I learned of 1440 a couple of weeks ago and am loving the no nonsense morning digest of what’s happening in the world. It truly is unbiased.
One Song to Listen to on Repeat
My friend Sally and I sang at our friend’s funeral last weekend and it may have been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. His teenage daughters chose two songs they used to sing together and this one has been in my head nonstop since. It’s a great song for remembering that God is faithful even in the midst of the terrible.
May you feel God’s unending presence and grace as you embark on your Lenten journey.
Until next time,
I’m no longer on social media, but there’s all kinds of fun stuff happening on the Blog.
Know someone who would love to receive every post?
