Well here we are at the end of summer. School has started back, the temperatures are beginning to cool, and lifeguard season is over. I don’t know about you, but as fun as summer was, I am more than ready to welcome Fall. Here are five short and sweet things to help you in this seasonal shift.
One Recipe to Try
I won’t stop sending you eggplant recipes until you’ve found one you like. This Black Pepper Tofu and Eggplant is simply divine (although I highly recommend you half the black pepper and double the brown sugar). The best part of the post is this quote:
For the love of absolutely nothing holy, because this an internet recipe blog and not the 11th commandment, you are allowed to make every single recipe you come across any way you wish. Modify for the ingredients you have. Modify for the schedule you have or the free time you want. Modify for the nutrients you need. Recipes aren’t bibles; I am no goddess. I don’t find it annoying. I mean, we’re going to have to manage our expectations about the outcomes. Some changes work, some don’t, and we can talk about it…”
Use what you have. Don’t like tofu? Double the eggplant. Or add diced chicken breast. Serve it over rice. Or rice ramen noodles. Or just eat it right out of the pan.
One Book Pair to Savor this Fall
Her Lost Words is a historical fiction look at Mary Shelley (the author of Frankenstein) and her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, who was one of the first feminist activists and writers. I read Frankenstein years ago with my book club and loved it; I am looking forward to re-reading it now that I’ve finished Her Lost Words.
One Writing Prompt for September
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Begin by writing (with pen on paper) I remember when…
Don’t stop writing until the timer goes off. Don’t think about whether the writing makes sense, just write. See what comes up. What memories are close to the surface today?
One Playlist to Keep You Company
I’m loving this Chill Rainy Day Mix put together by Spotify. It’s fun on sunny days too; it’s good for anytime you need a little chill music vibe.
One Movie Worth Your Time
I’m not a big movie buff, but after seeing the Barbie movie with my girls, I fell head over heels for Margot Robbie and decided it was imperative that I see everything she’s ever been in. My husband and I recently watched Bombshell and I was blown away. Margot’s character is fictional, and she really captivates the struggle many women deal with in a professional setting. I’m a sucker for political movies or TV (The West Wing is still my second favorite show ever) and with a heavy hitter cast, Bombshell did not disappoint.
